Don James Named Third Best Coach In Pac-10

James This morning Buster Sports ranked Don James as the third best coach in the Pac-10 over the past 50 years. I certainly agree with Nick Daschel that Don is in the top three. This will put USC’s McKay and Carroll at number two and one respectively. I’m not sure McKay should be ahead of Don or not, but he’s certainly one of the best.  Give it up for “The Dawgfather”

I’d have to agree with Buster Sports.
I’m a DAWG through and through and I love DJ but McKay was unbelievable and Carroll isn’t too far behind at #2.

He was certainly one of the greatest. One thing that people have to keep in mind is that Don is the top non-USC coach. McKay was able to stockpile talent and Carroll can collect blue chips like they’re a dime a dozen. But even during the years when Washington had a winning record against USC, the UW never had the talent USC did. Don James always out-coached them. Perhaps one could argue that he was in fact the best coach?
